Your Personal Brand Are You Forgettable - Workology

Your Personal Brand Are You Forgettable Whats Your Personal Brand Let’s face it; the economy in the US is in rough shape!   Blah, blah, blahAll I hear no matter where I go is complaining and whining. Well here’s what I say STOP IT! The law of gravity states, “What goes up must come down” and we’re on the down swing of an over-inflated, too big for your britches, entitled, fat human race.   We’re down-sizing and it doesn’t have to be the end of the world.   History always repeats itself.   This time around however, our recession is taking a lot longer than we would prefer.   To quote Peter Ferrara from Forbes Magazine in his January 2012 article, “The Worst Economic Recovery since the Great Depression” â€" “America has suffered the longest period of unemployment, near 9% or above, since the Great Depression.” Whats Your Personal Brand So if you have a job, consider yourself blessed, lucky, or having good karma with the world.   Then ask yourself, “What will I do every day to be considered a valuable and memorable employee?”  Whats my personal brand and what sets me apart from everyone else?   My 3 Rules of Life and Work   Be Honest. Mick Jagger says, “You can’t always get what you want…”   That’s the whole truth!   Understand your role on the job.   Stay focused on the responsibilities of your position and stop focusing on what other people SHOULD be doing.   Mind your own business and speak the truth about what pertains to you! GIVE 110%   Work hard.   By that I mean, “Give more than you take every day.”   Stop nickel and diming every single thing you do….Do your job right or don’t do it at all.   Cross your “T’s” and dot your “I’s”.   Remember those sayings?   If not, ask someone older who lives by them BE THANKFUL   Instead of putting all your energy into complaining about all the things you don’t like about your job, flip the equation around.   What DO you like?   What is GOOD about your job?   What do you value? Ed Koch died on Feb. 1, 2013.   He was one of the greatest Mayors of New York City.   Through his memorable leadership and commitment, he took a wore-torn, graffiti-filled, unsafe NYC…  â€œOut of its darkest days and set it on course for an incredible comeback.”   He was a man that said, “Be yourself.   Say what you believe.   And don’t worry about what people think!”   He said, “If you do what you believe is right, the people â€" even if they don’t always agree with you â€" will respect you.” Ed Koch was irreverent at times, but a man full of humor and chutzpah.   He left a legacy behind….The question is, will you?
